W.A. Rossouw Primary School in Montagu - Western Cape

W.A. Rossouw Primary School in Montagu (Western Cape) received ABCA books for their school library. The school is an under-resourced government school serving the poorest community in Montagu. There are 768 children from grade RR to grade 9, and the learner–teacher ratio is 39 :1. Although a room had been specifically designated as a library, it held less than 300 books for almost 800 children.

Claire du Toit from Montagu Cares, who is involved with the Reading with Meaning programme at the school said:
‘I just wanted to let you know that I am busy capturing all the data on to our library system and filling the shelves with your beautiful books! The plan is that once this has been done the learners will not only be able to enjoy the books in the library, but will also be able to borrow books to take home. Soon we will be doing a lovely display in our library which will properly acknowledge Australian Books for Children of Africa, and the Union of Jewish Women.’

Thank you to the Union of Jewish Women in Cape Town for distributing the books.
