The Family Literacy Project (FLP) recently received another delivery of ABCA books through the Rotary Club of Westville.
Here is a message we received from Jill Frow on behalf of the FLP team and Director Pierre Horn:
We at the Family Literacy Project in Underberg are so delighted once again to receive a generous donation of books from your organization. We are aware of the planning, motivation, collection and packaging that is involved in this huge project. We feel really privileged to be recipients.
We appreciate the role that the Westville Rotary plays in the distribution of the books. We know that the books have been sorted to meet the needs of the children who benefit from our work.
The books are so timely as we have just launched our updated Home Visiting Programme called Khulisa Abantwana. The main purpose of this programme is to lay foundational reading skills in pre-schoolers, starting from 0 to 3 years old. You will enjoy our brief Theory of Change which reads as follows:
“By making reading a shared and valuable pleasure, the Family Literacy Project fosters an environment where literacy thrives not just as an academic skill but as a joyful, bonding experience. Through sustained engagement, education, and community support, we are transforming literacy from a challenge into a cherished family tradition.”
The books are beautiful! My colleagues are going to be so excited when they arrive in Underberg. They are very busy sorting both Toy Bags for the Home Visitors and also a box of toys and books to leave in each of the 500 homes that will be visited.
