Pastor Alex Dewa’s book delivery to Uganda
Proof that when there is a will there is a way!
Pastor Alex Dewa has become a good friend of ABCA. He emailed us some years back asking for books for an organisation he is involved with in Zimbabwe. We told him we did not have shipping channels into Zimbabwe to which he was quick to respond that he will organise transport from Gauteng, South Africa. Since then he has been instrumental in distributing many of our books to many communities in rural Zimbabwe.
Recently he asked if it’s ok for some of our books to be donated to a small school in Uganda which is in desperate need of books. He said the school was just across the border of Zimbabwe in Uganda. If you look on the map - it’s not!
This is how Pastor Alex tells us the books got to Uganda:
The books were shipped from Zimbabwe to Uganda through a combination of road transport. We worked with a logistics company that specialises in shipping to handle the arrangements.
The process involved getting the books cleared through customs in Zimbabwe, transporting them to Uganda and then shipping them to Mombasa, Kenya. From Mombasa, they were trucked to Kampala, Uganda.
In Uganda we have coordinators whom we work with in making in making a difference in lives of people and kids.
Pastor Alex simply told us: It was a bit of a process!
Feedback from Pastor Alex about Skyland Academy in Uganda:
Skyland Academy in Mukono District, Lugazi, Uganda, is getting a boost in their reading culture thanks to Australian Books for Africa.
The school was thrilled to receive the book donation, which will help foster a reading culture among the kids. Big thanks from the head teacher to Australian Books for Children of Africa for making it happen!
